CERAMICS

Ray Edgar

Since 2005, I’ve immersed myself in the elemental dance between hand and earth, drawn to the tactile medium of clay. As a self-taught artist, I follow intuition over instruction, letting form emerge organically—guided by impulse, silence, and space. I resist repetition—not out of defiance, but because I believe the soul of a piece is born in the moment of its making. Each vessel, each sculpture, carries its own breath—singular and unreplicable.

In 2015, I began sharing my practice through teaching both beginners and advanced students at various ceramic institutions.

My work is available for purchase on this website and I always welcome inquiries, conversations, or quiet hellos at upcoming art markets.

A tornado sweeps through the vessel, inspiring this series. Each piece is thrown using various coloured clays. During the throwing process, a unique spiral pattern naturally emerges, resembling the swirling motion of a storm. The final result, however, only becomes visible after the piece is carefully trimmed and refined.

Orb

My latest design: a vessel with a perfectly curved profile that appears to float effortlessly. The rims are folded inward, adding a sense of movement and futurism. Made from white stoneware, the exterior is unglazed and polished smooth, while the inside features a vibrant, glossy royal blue glaze. Find it under “Orb” in my shop.

Torn and fractured, each vessel carries the memory of its making. Pressure leave their traces across the surface. Every curve holds intention, every imperfection a quiet record. With each revolution, new tensions emerge, and fine cracks appear, revealing not weakness, but an story of transformation and endurance.
